Hawcoat Park A 65 v Burnley A 7

Pitch and weather in perfect condition or this league and cup double. Hawcoat had several subs for this home game with a few old and new faces on view, following some good early pressure Hawcoat scored in the 7th minute when the pack took a ball against the head in the Burnley 22, quick ball from #9 Scott Garnett to #10 Lewis Sayle was fed to winger Jack Lord who finished well in the corner 5-0. In the 9th minute young second row Corey Doughty fielded the ball gained ground before handing on Chris Milby who broke a couple of tackles and handed on to supporting
full back Benji Platt to run 40 mtrs to score in the corner 10-0.
Hawcoat were playing well as a team with the backs looking menacing when in possession and solid in defence, the forwards won another ball against the head in the Burnley 22 to be punished by slick passing in the backs with Jason Milby cutting through at speed in the centre birth to score, cv Lewis Sayle 17-0. The Hawcoat forwards were gaining yardage driving in and recycling the
ball to supply the backs who complemented their effort by scoring a fine try in the 30th minute by centre James Armistead showing his potential running straight and determined to the try line 22-0. The 38th minute saw Chris Milby rob the Burnley scrum half to score a good back rower try 27-0. From the kick off winger Jack Lord caught the ball in his 22 to start off on a run to score under the posts leaving 6/7 would be tacklers in his wake, a fine solo try enjoyed by his team mates and spectators, cv Lewis Sayle 34-0. and half time.
The second half commenced with Hawcoat playing away from the club and Burnley kicking off, within seconds some sloppy play allowed Burnley to charge down a kick on our line to score and convert 34-7. In the 48th minute saw Jack Lord score his third try after some good inter play by several team mates 39-7. Hawcoat were putting their full subs bench to use when in the 60th minute the Hawcoat scrum got a good push on in the oppositions 22 from which Scott Garnett fed winger Peter Matthews to cross the whitewash 44-7. Hawcoat had some good backs on view ably led by Lewis Sayle at 10 who supporting well in the 65th minute scored and converted following up the hard running Chris Milby 51-7. Paul Woodburn, Ryan Brown and Mike Gibson were putting in some good forward drives and working hard in defence with the whole of the forward unit. A great team try was scored in the 70th minute by Rodney Odondi after most of the team having their hands on the ball cv Lewis Sayle 58-7. The final score was in the 77th minute from 70mtres out, finished off by the elusive running full back Benji Platt, a fine try converted by Lewis Sayle 65-7.
A good team game to watch with some players showing up really well. Lets all be making a big effort to travel to Aspull for next weeks league game.
Our opponents in the next round of the cup is Bolton 3rds AWAY on the 6th October 2018.
