Rochdale 3rds 5-38 Hawcoat Park “A”
A big bus for this trip to Lancashire with 22 players making the journey, pies from Lakes Parade to begin with, within 5 minutes of the kick off Rochdale scored an unconverted try 5-0 this kicked us into gear and we started tackling. Hawcoat scored a try in the 15th minute when from a scrum against the head the ball went along the back line to Lewis Sayle who made a half break to feed his wing man Adam Armstrong to finish the move in the corner 5-5. Hawcoat were strong in the scrum with Woodburn, Brown and Higgins a solid front row and Jordan Bayliff and Rory Sayle showing well in the lineouts. The backs were looking sharp and pacy and if the final pass on several occasions had reached Jack Lord on the wing I’m sure he would have had 4/5 trys by half time, as it was it took till the 39th minute for us to cross the Rochdale line when following some good interplay by backs and forwards the hard running Harrison O’Brien scored with Will Coles converting to make the half time score 5-12.
The second half started with Hawcoat playing more determined and staying in the Rochdale half creating pressure when Lewis Sayle chipped over the defence gathered and went under the post, Coles cv good 5-19 in the 48th minute. In the 50th minute Will Coles scored a nice try from standoff in our 22 breaking the line at pace changing direction to beat defenders to score under the posts, cv Coles 5-26. Hawcoat were making good use of their substitutes bench which proved to be good when in the 55th minute the ball went wide to our Millom wing partnership of Bobbie Pattinson and Simon Robertson for the latter to score a try started from well in our half, cv hit the upright 5-31. Mark Hall, Matthew Robson and Peter Matthews were putting in some graft in the forward battles with captain Peter Jennens leading from the front. The supply of ball from the forwards was giving the backs more opportunity to run the ball when in the 57th minute Robbie Pattinson showed a clean pair of heels from 60 mtrs to score, cv Coles 5-38. A Rochdale player was injured short of full time, the ref who had a good
game blew for full time.
Keenan Cotton looked safe at full back, fielding the ball and joining the attacking line when the opportunity arose. Corey Doughty, Harry Higgins and Mike Gibson played a good part with Adam Williamson and Jack Shannon playing good link parts at scrum half. Well played. A few pints were enjoyed in Preston on the way home, I’ve just got to say that I have been traveling away with the rugby for over 50 years and Saturday was the first time I have seen our players playing Twister in a pub and enjoying it, I think the ladies were enjoying it?
Bowdon in the cup at home next week boys so let’s be up for it.
